💻 what I'm up to 💻
Happy Halloween!
Okay, normally I send this newsletter on the last Thursday of the month but I turned in two books last week so here’s a newsletter on the last day of the month instead. It’s almost the same, right? Because of the whole “two book deadlines piling up thing” this month’s newsletter is a little shorter than usual.
What I will say is that since I got into the habit of treating writing like a job at the beginning of the year and scheduling time for it (or at least for doing business of writing things), I didn’t melt down when two previously spaced out projects came together. I made a plan around my usual two hours of writing time in the morning, added in some weekend work, and planned a day off my dayjob to use for writing—all while making sure I had time away from a computer. I needed to enjoy fall!
I’m not saying it was amazing. In fact, it was not ideal. I was rather drained at the end of last week. But it is done and I handled it better than I would have even a year ago. Future Amy will do even better by not saying yes to so many things. (I’m counting on you, Future Amy).
📘 my book things 📘
The Marvel Cinematic Universe: An Official Timeline by Anthony Breznican, ReBecca Theodore-Vachon, and myself is out now! We stopped by the This Week in Marvel podcast to chat about it, too!
I got back to drafting on an unsold project this week and I’m just having fun with it. I have this and one other book to tinker with (and so many ideas!) until I get edits back for the things I just turned in.
📺 what I'm watching 📺
The Golden Bachelor
I’ve never watched a Bachelor until now but second-chance love for a 70-something widower? Be still my beating heart.
📚 what I'm reading 📚
Night of the Witch by Sara Raasch and Beth Revis
Historical fiction? Check. Enemies to lovers romance? Check. And that romance is between a witch and a witch hunter? CHECK. I learned about The Witch Trials of Trier and fell for Fritzi and Otto. I. LOVED. THIS. BOOK.
🐳 something whalesome 🐳
I like wholesome things and the whale emoji is cute so: whalesome!
This is Percy, a bearded dragon, who really loves one specific sock.
🍃 creativity corner 🍃
Here I’ll share tips and tricks that are helping me write, imagine, and/or stay productive.
I recently attended an author SEO and platform webinar from The Future of Agency and found it quite informative. You can watch it on-demand but if you don't want to or can't shell out the cash for it, it is definitely a topic worthy of your attention and research, as unglamorous as it may sound.
📃 quote of the month 📃
"Almost every single thing you hope publication will do for you is a fantasy, a hologram." - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird
I am grounding myself with that one.
Comment or reply and let me know how you’re doing!
Happy Halloween! We have the same costume... I'm doing well. Now it's getting colder and wetter, it means more time for writing for me, so I'm getting back into my own historical fiction while working on my Substack. I'm hoping to write about Roman Trier soon, after visiting last November!
The Marvel book looks great! I love how Miss Minutes guides us through.
