The end of the year is days away. I’ve been reflecting on the last 12 months and looking ahead to the next year with an open mind and heart. My main goals for 2024: I will keep writing and telling stories, I will do fulfilling work, and I will put more good into the world. I know all of that is doable, though some of it will come with making changes, which are often scary.
Given how it’s on most of our minds anyway and that I’ve always loved reading Neil Gaiman’s posts for the new year, here are some of my hopes for you (and me!) in the new year.
May you finally learn you don’t need to earn rest. I hope you draw boundaries for yourself and maintain balance. May you meet a kindred spirit who gets you. I hope you cultivate relationships that help you grow, and that you help those friends grow too. Prune what no longer serves you. May you recognize that little things don’t deserve your anger and recognize what you can and can’t control. Believe in the possibility of growth for yourself. I hope that you read a story that changes your perspective, that you sit by a campfire on a fall night with s’more making supplies, that you find a hobby that brings you joy and that you do not turn into a side hustle. It’s okay to keep some things just for yourself.
Remember, you have so much within you. I’m rooting for all of us.
Thank you all for being here and for reading. If you want some cheerleading, share your goals for next year in the comments.
Happy New Year and hope for a positive 2024 for us all.
My intention in the new year is to find a lit rep so I can start getting the novels I’ve been writing properly out into the world.
Thank you so much Amy your message is really heartwarming. I certainly wish it for us all as well. I've been giving goals like write my first comic script or finish the gargantuan novel I decided to start this spring. Those are goals, but really my goals are the things you wishes for me - to grow and discover and move towards real connection and peace. I've already planned something I never would of thought of for January - my first proper holiday with a friend, travelling up the West of Scotland and down the East, seeing stone circles and ancient caves, musuems and mountains and really spending time with this person for the first time - it could go badly, but hopefully it'll be a moment of growth and connection and beauty - memories that'll really last...
Happy New Year! (Will we be hearing more about Mythic Mountains in 2024...?)
